St. Mary's Episcopal Church

Shelter Island, New York

The Rectory

The house is a gracious three bedroom 1973 ranch with two and a half baths, living room, dining room, kitchen, library with fireplace, sun room, and two car garage. It was completely renovated in 2008 and 2009 with a new modern kitchen, new baths, new flooring in the kitchen and sun room, hardwood floors sanded and treated throughout, new lighting, a new terrace and driveway, and new landscaping. All interior walls are painted Navajo white with white trim. It is located about three miles from the church in a quiet neighborhood adjacent to town-owned open space and has a right of way to a nearby creek.

The view of the house from the street.

The back entry and a view of the sun room, which faces south.

The kitchen is all new: cabinets, appliances, floor, and lighting. Most striking is the island between the kitchen and the dining room, which gives the whole space an open and airy feeling.
This is a view from the sun room into the dining room through the French doors. Notice the kitchen to the right and the chandelier in the dining room, which is on a dimmer and is designed to be able to use the dining room table as a desk for home work, etc.
The half bath is down the hall from the kitchen and also contains a bench with sleves above with hooks for coats.

Between the kitchen and the half bath is the laundry. Next to it is also a pantry closet which expands the storage area of the kitchen which is already considerable.
The hall bath has double sinks, a tub shower, considerable mirrors, and good lighting. It and all the bedrooms are on their own hall, which also has a linen closet and a large hanging closet.
The master bath is not large, but it includes a full shower.

This is the master bedroom. It has a double closet and a walk-in closet. There are two other bedrooms, each a decent size.

Before the church had an office for the rector, this was his study. It is now envisioned as a library or TV room, but can be used for any purpose.

This is the living room. Note the hardwood floors, which are throughout the rooms of the house. The living room also has a picture window.

This is the view from the living room picture window. Note the terrace out front. It is large enough for both a sitting and dining area.
The sun room faces south, is off the dining room and has sliding doors to the back porch which is also accessible from the kitchen hall way.
